Premiere: Kuxxan SUUM – Nike (ft. Misterthumbs) for Them Flavors label :.
You may know him by the name of Zach Cooper and his poetic explorations through electro acoustic and experimental fields, best expressed through last year debut album “The Sentence” where he weaves recordings with the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble, high school demos, solo compositions and eraserhead-less tape experiments.
After a few contributions to Chicago label/club events Them Flavors last year, Cooper is back with his moniker kuxxan SUUM to the imprint with a new 2 tracks EP. The one we are premiering today “Nike” that features Misterthumbs, marks a different outlook from the sonority he familiarize us with and I´m not talking about the other moniker. Even if he keeps the exploratory sensibilities in this new work, it is clear the intention to get outside the Ambient, R&B, beatmaking, OST compositions or other bass variations to step a inside a more Club music path. Not that he never did it in the past, the split with Doctor Jeep for end fence or the team up with MC Doodoo for South Fork are clear examples, but this time he bet all in simplicity and efficiency by bringing organic percussive elements that he skilfully blends with punching beats, body shaking low frequencies and distortion samples to create the base of a House/Bmore rhythm where Misterthumbs drops short but addictive vocals, impossible not to get dubidubidubidubidubi stuck in your head. “Nike” asks for this particular vocal style but you will be amazed by the versatility that Misterthumbs is capable. The EP is available at bandcamp (pay what you want) via Them Flavors here.
